An Approach to the Preknown and the Preconscious in GeoGraphics and Music

An exhibition-concert on September 12, 2008, at SPEDITION in the Güterbahnhof in Bremen, featuring the artist Dina Koper and the composer Christoph Ogiermann.

As changeable as the repressed, the arts respond to what, right NOW, constitutes the blank blotches on the maps of our seemingly familiar world. There is always SOMETHING underneath; temporally and spatially: temporally as an unfulfilled past, spatially as a geological layer with peculiar properties ("ominous sites").

The paintings arranged within this space, illuminated in constantly changing ways, and  the music, attempt to dig into these places trys to grasp the states of being. The eye, as a generator of phantasms, and the ear, as an organ of danger perception, are equally provoked here.

Ogiermann’s musical compositions are intercut with the GeoGraphics of artist Dina Koper. Large-format maps, overgrown with sea creatures, dolls, sex toys, and other forms, emerge in the light and disappear again:

The inner eye paints along... or perhaps the images emerge so slowly that the picture changes even as it is appearing—and keeps changing, and changing...
